Fabulous day at Alta

This corner of the Wasatch received 34 inches of snow in the past 36 hours. I skied until 2:00 pm and then toured up the summer auto road.

Yahoo – back at Alta again!

Everyone is raving about yesterday's powder day. I got in shortly before 1 AM and I only got about four hours sleep, but I'm pretty psyched.

Winter season review

Looking over my log, it looks like I only did 4-5 pitches of ice. Clearly as the picture reveals I used the Charlet Moser tool, more often for chipping ice for my scotch. However, between nordic and randonee skiing, as well as riding the lifts, I managed 90 days on snow so far!

Fiction about climbing and skiing

As many of you know, I read a lot of this genre, and even consider myself something of a collector. I was reading something recently in the New York Times about authors who had famously go decades before publishing another novel after a success. James Salter was one of the authors mentioned. Which caused me to do a little retrospective work on him, as I am a big fan of SOLO FACES and the script that he wrote for Robert Redford's THE DOWNHILL RACER.
