Thinking about rock climbing season?
Nordic skiing, randonee skiing, and a bit of ice climbing are still the order of the day. That said, thinking about scratching anorthosite in April makes my elbow twinge.

Saranac Lake Winter Carnival
The oldest continuous winter festival in the United States, along with
its traditional ice castle. I took the NCS Nordic team out to a great
hilly 5K race under the lights at Dewey Mt. tonight

A FOSSIL GATHERING ... February 7 & 8, 2015
Plenty of time to make arrangements. Plenty of time to get fit. Plenty of time to get a deal on airfare or new classic skis. Plenty of time to get the family onboard. BUT ... there is less and less time to get it on the bucket list before we hang up our spikes and play bingo.
Beautiful Quebec and Ontario farmland as well as some pure wilderness terrain, 2500 skiers touring anywhere from 32k to 160k over two days, classical only, amazingly well run, and make a vacation out if it, by adding a couple of days in Montreal and/or Ottawa.
I can pick you up at the Montreal airport.

A PAGE TURNER ... The Boys In The Boat
One part rowing; one part a narrative if the Great Depression; one part the rise of the Nazis party; one part the story of class difference from eastern and western schools, and all beautifully written.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK ... from the Dipsea Demon
On my way back from dropping Lucy off at St. Paul's, I listened to BORN TO RUN on audible.com ... "You don't stop running because you get old – you get old because you stop running."

Just enough new snow ...
To do laps up, and some telemark turns down our ski hill. It looks
more wintry, however it is the first day above freezing in several
weeks.

A Good Warm Up For The Olympics
Diggins wins a silver medal at the U23 World Championships, the US women get five in the top 25 in Saturday's classic World Cup race (more than any nation but Norway), and then they get four women to advance into the heats on Sunday's skate sprints ... Kikkan finishes fifth overall.
I think Team USA is ready!
