After the international boarding school fair I went for a two hour jog. If you discount the heat and humidity, then this surely must be one of the great cities to run in. Superb vertical, nice pedestrian paths, its incredibly clean, and it has spectacular views. I logged about 2500' this afternoon. Unfortunately I am traveling to Shenzhen tomorrow to meet with parents, and I fly home Monday, so I will not be able to check out the trails which are supposed to be equally fantastic.

Just when I start to think like An Ugly American  - how can China expect to be the world leader if the government blocks my blog, the New York Times, and Facebook - but then you get on the magnetic levitating bullet train to the airport and it goes 431 kph. Inevitably you start to think about the train connection to JFK that travels at 30kph and wonder ... are these guys going to eat our lunch?  Hong Kong is quite striking. I have a boarding school fair in an hour, but after three hours of families frantic for an American education, I will head out on a trail run with lots of vertical. It is late fall - mild - 86 degrees and 100% humidity!

First night in Shanghi

A long 14 hour flight from Detroit. (I watched three movies, read a bit, and tried to catch some shut-eye. I landed at four, was then driven to the hotel, and by 6:00, I was at a very famous restaurant. I Aam definitely being grated like royalty.

I trust when I get back from my china trip, Whiteface will have made enough snow for me to skin up something.

The Great Range In A Day

Over 35 years ago I met and teamed up with a South African climber in Chamonix for two weeks - before heading to the Gunks and Yosemite - we did some great routes. For instance, this picture of the Forbes Arête brought back wonderful memories of the ice route we did on the Chardonnet, and our descent of the arête.

Fabulous Run

At the end of the day I treated myself to a nice jog around our hilly, 5.5k perimeter loop. The light just after sunset on Pitchoff was awesome.

After Columbus Day they close the Whiteface Toll Road to vehicle traffic. I ran up 5k and 1500' ... Ice on the trees near the top, and colder air moving in ... Maybe some snow tonight.
