Hurricane lane and trail

A good 12k run, with almost 1300', and a good mix of dirt road, jeep trail, and single track.

QUOTE OF THE WEEK ... Wayne Gretsky

"Maybe it wasn't talent that the good Lord gave me, but maybe it was passion."

Yesterday traveling to Lucy's league championship I was listening to this book again. It covers a lot of ground, lots of good story telling, however not so much into the exercise science.

A successful track season

The two St. Paul's captains coming back with the second place team award at the league championships. Lucy was on the podium in the 1500m with a PR of 4:58. She finished fifth in the 800m, and ran the anchor leg on the fourth place 4 x 400m relay team.

Commuting to, and from work

Depending on the season and weather my options are: kayak, running, skiing, or by car.

Transitioning to running after ski mountaineering

A good article, however maybe a little complex for my tastes ... As for early spring running ... Go slow, go shorter, and go less frequently in the first month of transition. Nevertheless this is a good read.

Operation Moffat

I read Gwen Moffat's autobiography - SPACE BELOW MY FEET - decades ago. As Britain's first female mountain guide, she was breaking all kinds of barriers, but ultimately it was a good read because it offered another lens to view the history of our sport. Not sure where this film can be viewed, but I will keep my eyes open and let you know.

Spring in the Adirondacks

They rolled the Olympic nordic trails but unfortunately I was stuck in the office and could not get out to ski.

Spring is here!

The valley trails are firm, and will sprout spring beauties soon. Of course, Lucy said up high on Algonquin its icy and micro-spikes are definitely called for. I had a great 85 minute run, after three very long and stressful days in Manhattan.

One of those nordic days

A short, entertaining video ...

The knee is feeling better ...

I did four short and easy trail runs this week between 25-45 minutes long, supplemented by yoga, and the rowing machine.

Looks like Spring has finally come to the Adirondacks

Yesterday was spectacular; today, and the rest of the weekend will be equally as brilliant. Whiteface closes Sunday. The last boil in the NCS sugarbush will happen today, and I will spend most of the weekend getting ready for the April 23rd board meeting.

Not a great winter but I still managed 83 days on snow ...

I will end my season in Utah. I am heading out to Alta for four days in 48 hours - it's work, an alumni ski reunion - somebody has to do it!

This crummy nordic season ends where it started ...

Doing laps at Whiteface. Thankfully, this is not too painful on the knee! I might go back this afternoon.

Knee surgery?

Two weeks after I tweaked my knee I can barely get up Owls Head! I feel like a very old man, and while it was great to get out and see the view, I am worried.

On a different note, you see the clouds rolling in, the temperature will drop all day, and tomorrow it looks like snow.
