Track and Field Olympic Trials Start Tomorrow

Owl's Head

For a short hike it doesn't get much better: views, solid rock to climb, and blueberries in season.

Henry's Woods

A nice 50 minute trail run, in this great community space.

Himalayan Viagra

If truth be told some fossils support Big Pharma with their purchases of viagra, but who has tried the Himalayan Viagra?

Two weeks until the Whiteface Vertical K

A course that is 2.4 miles long and gains 3,300' ... it will be a quad-killing, gut-buster!

Beautiful Adirondack summer day

After schmoozing with Treetops parents I went for an easy hike on our campus perimeter and did some easy laps on our crag.

Cool weather ... nice trail run

It doesn't get much better than having grassy Olympic nordic trails and single track mountain bike terrain to run on!

Exercise, and the 20,000 how to do articles out there ...

I am way past the point in my life when I pay attention to these types of articles.

They usually have titles like, "six ways to build hill running skill for the UTMB," or "three keys to train for the Cassin Ridge," or maybe "your 16 month plan for the nordic Olympic Trials." However, reading trail running, skiing, climbing, and general sports literature the way I do, I come across dozens every day, and usually give them a quick visual scan. This one is worth reading:

2016 Sierra Trip

A fantastic father-daughter trip. Lots of hiking, lots of vertical, some trail running, yoga, hot springs, a gym workout, and even some Nordic skiing.

Rubicon Trail

After the morning workout, the fossils chewed the fat. Then Lucy and I went for a 90 minute run with another 1000 vertical and great views.

Day 7: starting in the gym

Lucy did an hour long strength workout, while the fossils - Hock, Mark, Danny - did a variety of stuff.

A great trail run on Spooner Summit

Fatigue setting in ...

A run at the travertine hot springs this morning, and a run/hike on the Tahoe Rim Trail. Maybe come back some day an do all 165 miles.

Day 6 ... Massive thunderstorms and snow up high

Well what do you do when it's pouring rain? Break down camp and head to Schat's bakery.

Day 5 in the Sierras

A 15k run/hike to North Dome. Spectacular views and Indian Rock was pretty cool as well. Fatigue is starting to set in. A great father-daughter time.

End of day four ...

Lucy hiked Tioga Peak, Gaylor Peak, and did a 6 mile run to Mono Lake ... Nice to be 18 and fit!

Day 4 in the Sierras

A quick breakfast; hike up Tioga Peak; stop at the bookstore in Lee Vining; a conference call with Ian Symmonds, and then off to Mammoth. I wish I brought my ski mountaineering year!

Glacier Point Hike

Just two hours but my knees will be screaming on the way down!

Day 3 ... Yosemite Valley
