BLAST FROM THE PAST

Having just re-read THE PHILOSOPHY OF RISK, and listened to THE BOYS OF EVEREST, I was reminded of what an amazing climb the 1970 route on the South Face of Annapurna was. It was way ahead of its time, and Dougal Haston and Don Whillans were simply brilliant. Dougal had been a climbing star after the Eiger Direct, however this climb put him in the Mick Jagger, rock star category. (Remember, click on the photograph to enlarge the image.)
